Print fest / guatemala 2024

I love when flea markets have art, it’s really interesting to see artists promoting their art, from stickers to prints, every artist puts effort on their stand to show off, props to the ones who make it! Two weeks ago I had the pleasure to attend PRINT FEST as an artist in Guatemala City, oh man… my wife helped me printing the works and literally, she saved me, I had some busy weeks at my job… two days earlier I was so ready to live the experience. My mom is in town so she was there with me helping me during the day.

Here’s what happened, I expected a lot of friends coming to see my art, a few showed up and I only sold one print, I think it’s cool because people don’t usually go outside and buy art, so I’m thankful for that, it’s so hard to sell art in the traditional way, like putting on sale stickers, prints, postcards, t-shirts, etc. From the sale I had, I bought 7 pieces from fellow artists there.

Since 2021, I’ve been creating art and selling it as digital art, I can’t complain, I had good and bad times on that but mostly, good.

PRINT FEST hit hard on me, a lot of artists sell their physical art at flea markets and online, I don’t see myself selling my collages on flea markets, I’m so sorry to say this but it takes a lot, specially in my country, people just don’t buy art regularly… this is the truth.

All my art has been out there in the digital art world, I didn’t start selling my art just to get rich, no. I like tech, innovation and being disruptive, that’s why I prefer to be selling my art online.

PRINT FEST was cool, I connected with other artists, we laugh, we worked together but I think I could do that again when I feel ready to sell more than just prints, I’m not saying it was an awful experience, no. It was one of the best experiences I had as an emergent artist, but for now, I will work my ass off to get more physical art framed, ready to be shipped when an amazing collector can come and buy my art, I’m not ready yet, all my analog art is safe now, but I need to work on more stuff to be ready and keep enjoying the ride.

Thanks to my friend Levi de la Rosa and Sindy for inviting me to PRINT FEST, I really enjoyed the experience.
